Should I only use the drivers provided in the Zephyroth's release?

I have a Canon Pixma MP830 and the printer was working fine with the Gutenprint Drivers. I was wondering, since there is 230mb update in my software update, should I install the newer drivers? Or is there a risk to that? Thanks.
