Geforce GT240 only VGA working, no DVI. 10.6.4
i just bought a geforce GT240 1GB DDR5, and after i installed it, i lost display altogether in my retail snow leopard installation. if id delete geforce.kext (and all the other nvidia kexts) from within windows (have MacDrive 8 installed) the system would boot up. but if i put the kexts back in, it wouldnt.
so i started playing with different injectors, EFI strings (where i found out that osx86 tools doesnt work in snow leopard... grrr!!) and still couldnt get it. so i decided to try the VGA out, and sure enough, it came right up. full resolution, QE/CI (confirmed by front row and adding a widget) however, i notice a HUGE difference in picture quality, and its not good enough for me. i think the injector i am using right now is NVInject, and its for a 9800GTX, maybe that would be an issue here? system specs are below. thanks.. i appreciate your guys' time. nick AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.8GHz NF-M2SV motherboard (abit) 4GB 800MHz DDR2 Geforce GT240 1GB DDR5 PCI-E 500GB western digital SATA 7200RPM - Snow Leopard 10.6.4 750GB Western Digital SATA 7200rpm - Windows 7 64bit 22" widescreen TFT LCD oh.. and real quick, for some reason, profiler shows my system as a mac mini. is there a way to change that, or am i better off leaving it alone? should i just wipe the hard drive and reload fresh? even if i have no enablers in, if there is any reference of a Geforce in the extensions folder, (any geforce kexts period) it will not start up while on the DVI. maybe since i originally installed with a 7900 GS, a string i cant find is screwing with the boot. anyone?

ok update. did a full reload. (by the way the nawcom mod cd is the best boot cd i have ever used. booted my amd into the installer.)
i reloaded everything. graphics enabler works, but ONLY on VGA. dvi doesnt even boot. so im back at square one. im really ripping my hair out over this one... really tempted to sell this card to my dad and buy a gtx. what am i missing? i even downloaded a rom and built my own string with custom NVCAP from NVCAPMAKER. it picked up the string. had my custom name and everything. no qe-ci or rez. only way to get it at least usable is on vga, where i have rez and full qe-ci and probably openCL too. opinions advice anyone? Update. Removed aty_init, and removed all injectors. Will now boot on dvi. Graphics enabler works perfectly booting from VGA. I can then plug in the dvi. Screen will flash, and come up on dvi. I can then remove the VGA and it's fine until I reboot.
So I'm no further than before, except I'm using EFI thru graphicsenabler=y. I'm thinking if I have another monitor hooked up, it will work fine. Can't try that until I get another monitor. If it helps I have mine working 100% on vga and can make it work on dvi and vga, but any change in screen resolution results in blue screen, which can be rememdied by clicking detect desplays "hard to see with blue screen" or sleep then unsleep computer.
The problems do seem to be related to to nvcap value. If you like I can upload the values I'm using via DSDT. "don't have them with me at the moment". |

Thanks, but I don't think it's necessary anymore. I broke down and bought a hdmi to dvi cable, and it works perfecty. Surprised me, actually, that the hdmi works.
What my problem is now is I have very laggy qe/ci. It's enabled, I have ripples when I add a widget, but they lag. My openGL sucks. The system is actually faster without qe/ci enabled. I am using the smbios of an iMac11,2 because that is giving me the best performance... But stil sucks. Do you notice any of this on your card? okay, finally asked my apple buddy about my issue. he said he doesnt know a lot about the hackintosh world, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, the nForce chipset kext may be interfering with the nVidia Geforce kexts, causing a slowdown. this sounds plausible.... any thoughts?
