It may be worth picking up a cheap network card like the Realtek 8139 or 8169.

The forcedeth drivers are really flaky. My xbox wouldn't connect to Connect360 and bonjour in ichat wouldn't work...

I'm betting you bypassed the initial setup after installing. This is the only reason I can think of that would cause 'to be filled by oem' to be put there.

I eventually managed to update to 10.5.4 after a couple of failed attempts which botched my system twice. Both times I had to restore from my time machine backup because my hack was left unbootable....
