Changing resolutions or refresh rate causes an instant meltdown...

This includes when an application tries to make itself full-screen, which is how I discovered this. Inteli- can you change your refresh rate/run full screen apps with NV?

hmmm i don't do a lot of this, but I got burning monkey solitaire in the macheist bundle and it goes full screen when you launch it. No problems there. Same thing with that Monkey Island game from the MH bundle. I don't seem to have any issues with NVEnabler. Make sure you repair permissions.

Removed GraphicsEnabler and installed NVEnabler, put my device/vendor ID in NVDAN50HAL.kext on the IOPCIMatch key, boots fine, openCL benchmark is even a little higher. Still no full screen or resolution changing!

I am afraid to change resolution in the system prefs, because that bricked my install the only other time I did it as I couldn't change it back... I could probably figure out a way but it seems like a hassle. My test is to run Halo, actually.

The game will start, go full screen, and then the whole screen will go white/red static. I will see a small line of graphics at the very top edge of the screen and the game appears to load fine other than the graphics. When I force quit the game, I go right back to desktop and everything is fine again.

I'm sure this is related to my fancy 120hz monitor and changing the refresh rate but I have no idea where to start to fix this! The graphics drivers and acceleration are working fine- playing Halo in a window gives me like 150 fps.

I am repairing extensions with these commands-

sudo -s
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
touch /System/Library/Extensions

... I think that's right... I've also used osx86 tools to do it for me, and clear caches and such, so I don't think it's a permissions issue.

You may want to consider another fresh install. Then install nvenabler and do nothing else for graphics. after reboot os x should detect your optimum resolution. I occasionally get static on boot or after waking the display from sleep but a reboot takes care of it.

Have you tried power cycling your monitor when it gets all wonky? maybe it has something to do with the settings on the monitor and not OS X. I would think your monitor would work just fine at 60hz.

Hello all,
I'm a late comer for my hackintosh. I didn't know about this thread until I was referred by the owner from the other thread. It would save me lots of nights trying to install retail snow leopard 10.6.3 on my hackintosh. None working out there and none supported with the new 10.6.3.
Anywho, thanks to this thread, I got mine working in 5 hours.

1. My system is MSI X58 Platinum (non SLI), i7 920 OC @ 3.6Ghz (180Mhz base) 6Gb triple channels Cosair 1066, ATI PCIe XT2600 HD, Airlink101 AWLH6070 wireless 150N, Brother MFC-665CW, ACER P244W, all SATA drives and DVD, no ATA connected.
2. Installed on 1 drive 400GB Leopard 10.5.8 using iDeneb 1.6 & iAtkos v7 combo.
3. Bought a retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on Amazon for $28.8.

Now the installation using this guide.

1. Installed on 500Gb drive clean using the hacked way . Yes, finished installing with errors. Ignored it.
2. The downloaded Chameleon install package rc3 doesn't boot. Use myHacker1.0.1 to install in the new installed (with errors) "snow leopard 10.6.3".
3. Edit "Extra/Extensions" folder in the new installed drive "snow leopard 10.6.3", add all the kext files from this guide + ATY_init (for my XT2600 ATI) and dragged the DSDT.aml from the working root folder 10.5.8 to the root of the new "snow leopard 10.6.3".
4. Remove AppleATIX2000.kext from the new system Extensions, this one caused kernel panic.
5. Set bios to boot from the new "snow leopard 10.6.3"
6. So what's in the myHack1.0.1 com.apple.boot.plist?
a. Kernel Flags = "arch=i386" (runs default at -x32).
b. Graphics Mode = 1024x768x32
c. GraphicsEnabler = Y, Pcie=1
7. The board doesn't display, just a blue screen and sit there for 15 minutes. Something is wrong, the graphic card doesn't work now even with low resolution force. Luckily, I had an extra ATI HD3450 ($19) from NewEgg last year, swapped XT2600 out with this one. I booted up to the welcome screen in less than 2 minutes. I was so happy to see the registration page. Reboot and set "Graphics Mode"="1920x1080x32@60", and the display came up with 1440x1050 with this ATI HD3450. Well this not important for now.
8. Use Kext Helper 7 to install ATY_init.kext and VoodooHDA.kext.
9. Reboot, but the ATY_init.kext didn't do anything for ATI HD3450, still at max 1440x1050. Well, swapped this out and back with ATI HD 2600XT card. Edit the com.apple.boot.plist in the Extra folder and replaced 1024x768x32 with 1920x1080x32 and Pcie=1 to Pcie=0. Reboot.
10. Beautiful screen @ 1920x1080x32 came up... it even has all the screen resolutions option for me to choose.
11. Remove the "arch=i386" from the com.apple.boot.plist and it didn't boot at all... Need help on this please.
12. PS2 keyboards and mouse didn't work either, it worked before with 10.5.8 even installing the ApplePS2.kext from the 10.5.8 system... Need help on this one too please.
13. Preview doesn't work, open a picture and it's blank. Help on this please.
14. Screen capture to file, I can hear the clicks but NO pictures appear on the desktop. Help on this please.

The snow leopard 10.6.3 seems to be faster but until I get all the kinks out, I like the 10.5.8 better with all printers, ps2 devices working and especially the print screen.

Thanks again X986123 for a real working guide,

Louis

PS: I'm writing this up with screen shots here when I get everything working.

Fixed everything... Running with full QE/CI

After reading on the net, 10.5.8 has qe/ci working with ATI HD2600 XT but NOT Snow Leopard. Went out to buy a $33.00 Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS, everything is working right out of the box, QE/CI/CL. The preview, quicktime screen recording, Screenshots, Front Row didn't work because of the Graphic card. Now everything works, iMovie HD warning is gone. Wonderful system now. Full write up in details and videos are on the way. Just got everything working last night. Even my new Laptop Gateway id5822U.

Cheers,

Louis

Anyone know how to get SL to recognize dual 280 cards? I don't expect to get them in SLI mode because I guess SL doesn't support that, but I just want to be able to boot without having to physically unplug one of the cards first. If I do that, everything works fine. I have tried various EFI strings to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Actually that could be your problem right there. You need to use a SATA drive. Here is what the OSX86 database says needs to be done to make this board work:
  • USB works with Multibeast Rollback installed
  • For audio use VoodooHDA installed in /Extra/Extensions and /System/Library/Extensions
  • Network works OOB
  • SATA works OOB with myHack installer v1.1
  • RAID works using Chameleon RC4 files and Aquamac's Bootable RAID instructions, requires dabbling with the two "Boot OSX" partitions
  • Used the Retail Snow Leopard DVD to install 10.6, updated to 10.6.6, used the Multibeast to install USB Rollback
  • Can use system in 64-bit only which is a plus, just add "arch=x86_64" to the boot strings
  • Make sure you make a DSDT.aml, after which you can remove NullCPUPowerManagement.kext.
  • Refer to this link for help: [46]
Good luck!
