Ah yeah, upgraded to kernel v3 and finder from dp2 works as it should on boot. But my system feels slower for some reason now.

Check my reply few pages earlier..xpchelper crashes and then it starts being sluggish because reportcrash eats all your cpu.

It works fine here ;)
I'm also wondering if anyone is working on the kernel at the moment? It's really silent :(

It does indeed, there is something else wrong in the kernel itself.. I personally reverted to a older kernel.
Also I'm wondering if there is any real difference between the kernels since they are exactly the same in size..
Also, proof for some people who say App Store doesn't work, it works fine here:

Yes, it works perfectly fine here. Also I have not experienced the "Apps do not open" -bug with the mach_kernel_amd.zip kernel :)
Edit: It started it again but I don't know yet if apps have stopped opening. Edit2: Yep it did :(

the one from mach_kernel_amd.zip but honestly I don't think there is any difference between them as they are all exactly the same in size.. :<
trying mach_kernel_bronzovka.zip now..du says the size of all of them is 14752 though..Also trying smbios tweaks..
Luckily it's not my only OS as I run Gentoo and Ubuntu as well, if it was I would be in pain :D

Hi
I have an amd box here that has been running 10.5 and 10.6 for a few years now, nice and stable....
With Lion, I grabbed Bronzovka's kernel, copied an Intel box installation of 10.7.3 over to a partition on the AMD box and started tinkering...
Set boot flags per various posts....
Added Kext's ...
So far no joy, just hangs .... Waiting for Windows Server
Now the Intel box had intelchipset while the AMD box has the Nvidia chipset
So I'm wondering if I need to add more Kexts???
I've got FAKESMC, IOUSBMassStorage, Evoreboot, NullCPUPower, IOUSBFamily, JMicron36, IONetworking Family, and Elliott...
Please let me know about other Kexts.
AMD is Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Brand ID 4 Socket AM2,
Cheers

Hey guys i ran into more problems recently and was hoping that u can help me...
1. =Sometimes when i boot it is stuck on spinning apple logo and when i am in verbose it hangs after DSMOS arrives so i think it just could get into GUI... (if i wait a little i see 251 errors...is that xpchelper???)
2. =When I enter fullscreen on some apps(like preview or angry birds space) and I click quit fullscreen my PC either gets KP or goes into login with message that your computer was shut down to prevent damage
Anybody could fix it???...
And my AMD is model 5... I am using the only one kernel i have found...no idea what version it is... if you could give me link for newest kernel for AMD model 5 i would be very happy...

Again, maybe the problem is in the Niresh's dvd itself? Try using something else, like upgrading from Snow Leo with iAtkos (which I don't personally recommend as it's illegal, but it works).
or use a computer with Intel CPU and swap out the hdd after install. ;)

Can I just ask...what is xpchelper in fact doin??? because if it crashes all the time and everything "works" it isnt doin much... is it some kind of application panics handler??? thats why they start after 20 minutes and they just dont respond???

Well, This has been discussed so many times in this threads. You cannot install it from the installation media (yet).
But you can install from 1) a real mac, swap the hdd after install 2) Install Snow Leo and install iAtkos L2 to another partition by running OSInstall.mpkg.
I would check if the CPU is supported first, though. Also, old Chameleon doesn't work for Lion, it causes an instant reboot. ;)

If you have Snow Leopard and don't have windows and need to use CPU-Z to check cpu, use CPU-X as an alternative (download here (http://www.osx86.net/view/399-download.html))

AFAIK, most modern O/S use PAE (Physical Address Extension) which allows 32-bits x86 processors to access a physical address space (including random access memory and memory mapped devices) larger than 4GB

Use the mach_kernel_V4 one at the top of his page
Or this page: http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=2584
to get it to boot install your favorite chameleon flavor, then at the chameleon promp type -legacy cpus=2 busratio=16 arch=i386 GraphicsEnabler=Yes PCIRootUID=0.
At least that is what worked for me.
Doesn't have a working Finder though, because that one is 64bit only.
Asus M4A78 motherboard with AMD Athlon II x2 250 processor.
ati SB700/770 chipset.
ATI RadeonHD 4350 enabled using ATI4350.Fix.v2.kext. In /Extra/Extensions/
VoodooHDA273 for sound.
Disabler.kext in /E/E
EvilAppleACPIPlatform in /E/E
IOPCIFamily from the install in /E/E ( I think this one is for 10.6.2 or 4)
And in org.chameleon.Boot.plist I put -legacy -v cpus=2 busratio=30 (mine required this) arch=i386 -force64 (for when the kernel will support this) GraphicsEnabler=Yes PCIRootUID=0 into kernel flags.
Notice the changed numbers for cpus and PCIRootUID. Seems to make a difference, and is what our Russian friends are doing to theirs.

As I've said (for the 7th time, just counted!) many times, you need to use iAtkos L2 or a real mac. You don't really "update", but you install it to it's own partition via Snow Leopard.
Run OSInstall.mpkg from iAtkos L2 dvd and you should be set, pick an empty partition and just drop in the kernel afterwards. :)

Hey everybody,
When I saw that an attempt was being made to create an AMD compatible kernel of Lion, I dug out an old PC (all my newer systems are actual Macs) and installed 10.7.3 on it. I ran into the same xpchelper issue that everyone else here mentioned. Although I'm not a good enough coder to improve the kernel itself, I did manage to make the problem less annoying.
First up:
tell application "Activity Monitor" to activate
do shell script "launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.ReportCrash.plist"
do shell script "launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.ReportCrash.Root.plist" user name "adminuser" password "adminpwd" with administrator privileges
This AppleScript is very simple. It just launches Activity Monitor (so that you can see when xpchelper goes crazy. Then, it unloads the crash reporter (both from the user and as root) so that when xpchelper DOES crash, crash reporter doesn't go crazy creating system logs and writing them to disk. The downside is you can't get crash reports of other crashes, but for now, it's a huge help. You obviously need to replace adminuser and adminpwd with your administrative username and password. Then save the code in AppleScript Editor as an application. You can either save it to the desktop for quick access or use the login manager to set it to autorun. The downside is you still need to watch Activity Monitor for when xpchelper goes crazy, but simply clicking it and hitting the Quit Process button takes care of it until the next time it goes nuts.
I'm trying to make it so you don't need to do that:
property currenttime : 0
property previousbreak : 0 as integer
property currentbreak : 0 as integer
on idle
set currenttime to time of (current date)
set currentbreak to (currenttime / 60 / 60 / 30) as integer
if currentbreak is not equal to previousbreak then
do shell script "/usr/bin/killall xpchelper" user name "adminuser" password "adminpwd" with administrator privileges
set previousbreak to currentbreak
end if
end idle
This is a basic script that runs as an idle process and simply kills all xpchelper processes every two minutes. It does keep you from having to watch Activity Monitor but in my experience killing the process when its not going crazy leads to more app crashes, so its not ideal. Still, if you want to use it, again replace aminuser and adminpwd with the necessary details, compile and save in AppleScript Editor. This time you need to save as format Application, and check the box next to keep open.
I'm working on a method where it looks at CPU Utilization of the xpchelper processes and kills only the ones that have gone crazy. I don't have that quite working yet though, and it may need to kill all instances as the bad ones are crashing and reforming too quickly.
Anyway, hope that helps. On my system 10.7.3 is fairly useable on an old AMD system, which is pretty impressive given that none of it was possible just a couple weeks ago.

Or you can just chmod -x it :) so it's not executable, and crash dumps wouldnt be written AT ALL. It's not the xpchelper which is eating the CPU here, It's the ReportCrash (or whatever) process.

Hey guys,
I have an AMD Athlon II X4 645, and my "About this Mac" used to say "Unknown CPU 3.1 GHz". When I installed OS X, I didn't have a dsdt.aml; However, when I finally extracted and compiled my own, my processor now says "3.1 GHz Intel Core i5". Is it possible to install Lion now that it displays an Intel CPU? I've attached a screenshot of my current "About this Mac".

Hi, thanks for your help. What kernel do I need for Amd Phenom IIx4 965? Does a kernel exist for that? And how do I just drop the kernel in? Is there a new folder that will be created on my snow leopard side that has Lions operating system in it that I can browse and drop the kernel in some how? Thank you my friend. I can install Lion on Snow Leopard side with iAtkos L2, do I need to be at Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or is being at 10.6.6 for Lion disc alright too or you are unsure?
Anyone have any Iatko's Lion Wallpaper? Iatko's has a pretty cool looking lion logo.

Hi,
I have an existing Snow Leopard installation and am interested in installing/upgrading to OS X Lion. I followed your guide step by step, but every time I try to boot from my Lion partition, it instantly reboots the PC. During the post-installation phase, I didn't quite understand you when you said, "Install Chameleon using Chameleon Wizard on the harddrive." So I went ahead and used my existing bootloader to try and boot Lion, of course with your boot flags. I also tried using a USB stick to boot from it, but no success. Could the existing bootloader be the problem, and if it is, should I attempt to find the previously explained "Chameleon wizard" to install the proper one, then use fdisk to make my Lion partition my active one?
Thanks,

Well, Thanks for getting this kernel going.
I have installed and gotten a FX4100 AMD chip to boot/install Lion. Finder works and Itunes works and appstore works. It doesnt seem to like to run 32bit apps. DYLD needs to be patched so it seems and many more things. This has a way to go.
Many OSX86 devs are on a IRC server that i use. Including nawcom and others.
I have started a chan for AMD. irc.sojugarden.com #amd-hackintosh also people are in #hackintosh

Hello! Did you replace the mach_kernel file in the root of the installed Lion partition? If your machine reboots without showing any verbose (after kexts are loaded on screen and kicks into the system boot, your machine is either unsupported or your using wrong mach_kernel.
Try v5 or the one at the bottom (of the 5, the oldest one), but shouldn't make a difference. Charmeleon Wizard is a program you can get for Mac (Snow Leopard/Lion) that installs the latest version of Charmeleon (or update), with ease. It's a small application that downloads the latest trunk build and then even does the dirty work for you.
But, reading from that you need to replace mach_kernel. Open your Snow Leopard partition OR macdrive and replace the mach_kernel (it will be hidden, use showallfiles) on your Lion partition.

The great thing about Chameleon Wizard is, it'll actually be able to upgrade your snow leopards chameleon to the latest build by picking partition, and you won't need to install it on the lion partition. :)

OK, so I used the boot flags mentioned in the above post, and I got a kernel panic upon boot. I think it doesn't instantly reboot now because of the updated Chameleon, and that's why I'm gonna retry the v4 mach_kernel instead of my current v5. I'll report back later and hopefully I'll be inside Lion! ;)

Great! Where does it reboot, after the loaded kexts, another black screen should pop up and display the actual verbose for booting.

USBLegacyOff=Yes Is to turn USB Legacy off, some motherboards have problems loading their keyboards, hence the reason for using this bootflag. You will either get no error shown and hangs on verbose or an EHCI controller error, where it doesn't move forward until it's either unpluged or it's frozen already. Also, arch=i386 is a safe flag, as Quicktime was reported not working without it by someone on Applelife.ru, but I just chucked it in, for safety measure.

The instant reboot would load the kexts but would never reach the black screen. It doesn't instantly reboot anymore; It loads the kexts, then continues on to a black screen, which is where the kernel panic appears. I've replaced the v5 kernel with the v4 and will try your original boot flags [and the new ones if necessary] ASAP. Just need to finish something up on my Windows virtual machine...

Yepp, it's good for browsing web and instant messaging, but there's a bug that's causing xpchelper to crash when it's booted for around 10 minutes. You won't be able to configure the file system either, so word documents won't be able save and you won't be able to move/copy/paste file or install programs. Yeah someone said it wasn't working, but it's always worked for me.
Also have you got iCloud to work? I still think it won't work because it's self compiled kernel, but I'm also hoping I'm wrong.

Note: The portrait image was booted with pmVersion=0; The landscape image was booted without pmVersion=0. The difference can easily spotted, with the pmVersion=0 image having considerably more text than the landscape non-pmVersion=0 image.
Hi !
You need delete sleepenabler.kext ;)

Should I delete the SleepEnabler.kext... in my Snow Leopard installation? I did a complete search of both the /Extra and S/L/E directories on my Lion partition and there's no such "SleepEnabler.kext".
To lunfai; I updated Chameleon using Chameleon Wizard, then tried your original and modified boot flags Also, I replaced the kexts in my Lion installation with yours, lunfai, and unplugeed mouse and keyboard as directed. None worked.

Yeah, pretty much... :-/ Do you have any clue as to what exactly is preventing Lion to boot at this point?

Everything up to that point is normal, can you install chameleon on another usb stick using chameleon wizard. If you updated the Snow Leopard one, I think you still have some kexts there in Extra/Extensions, this is causing a disruption with the system boot up.
I think this because it says there's a duplicate fakeSMC name (look in your screenshot with pmVersion=0). It says that it's being loaded again, so there has to be another kext being loaded somewhere, and it would make perfect sense. Just install clean chameleon on a new usb stick or remove Extra/Extensions + Extensions.mkext from the current chameleon. I'm not particular picking at fakeSMC, but it could be loading more then just fakeSMC (like Evoreboot, IOPCI, disabler, basically old snow leopard kexts), and these kexts could be causing the kernel panic.

OK, I installed Chameleon on my 16 GB SanDisk Cruzer using Chameleon Wizard as instructed, and the boot process went way further than before! ^_^ The infamous kernel panic is gone, but another problem as risen, as you will see below and in the attached pictures. The boot process stops at the following strings:
IntelCPUMonitor: Based on code by mercurysquad, superhai ©2008
IntelCPUMonitor: [Warning] No Intel processor found, kext will not loadBooting with lunfai's original boot flags (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=278181), I let the PC interact with the hard drive and the flash drive for more than 30 minutes, but it stayed at the same screen for the duration of the time. What do you guys think is wrong now?
Again, these pictures were taken with my iPad, so if anyone needs higher-res pics, I can certainly get those to you. :)

Is anyone working on getting the kernel to boot into full 64bit mode? so 32bit and 64bit apps run? Im currently on a FX4100. There is a place in there which needs to get patched for this cpu. One user here has done it.
Mine is fully booting with finder working. My cpu has SSE3. dual video / Audio. Just all 32bit apps crash :) since its half/half.
Wondering if anyone is working on this.
Feel free to come join us @ irc.sojugarden.com #hackintosh
More devs please and less people trying to get things to boot ;)

so i removed reportcrash .file
from sys/lib/coreserv/reportcrash
and it doesn't steal all your cpu power to report the xpchleper crash over and over
the apps are working great without reportcrash after 45min of use.
and force quit xpchelper in activity monitor helps as well
and i also ran marvins amd utility to make a patcher pkg and used maxxus patcher to do cupid file patch made in marvins util.
it patched nicely do you think that whats helping the apps work better than before?

Your really close now! Like really close as dmos has arrive is one of the final signs, not sure why that's showing up, did you use iATKOS L2? Try removing NULLintel... Kext that I gave you, from /system/library/extensions/ And boot up with -x

Used iAtkos L2 to install onto a different partition then swapped the mach_kernel. Booted with kernel flags "-legacy -v npci=0x3000" . Replaced Finder with DP2 Finder.

So, even if I had a supported graphics card, it wouldn't have booted because of that IntelCPUMonitor? Also, shouldn't it say "systemShutdown False"? I'm in the process of finding a good graphics card, would the GT320 be OK?

No matter what I can always load safe mode, even if my graphic card wasn't detected yet since I didn't modify the kext.
I would use this bootflag
-legacy -x -v GraphicsEnabler=No
As for the IntelCPU kext getting in your install, I have no idea how you got that if you used iATKOS L2 unless you select customized and got it, as my machine doesn't have this, and also my retail installation. That kext just got onto your system somehow, I didn't think it caused the faliure to boot, but it gave errors in the verbose.
Maybe a clean iATKOS L2 would be in order, if you give it one last try :o
Also, Bronzovka is working on a new version kernel, he hasn't given much information but I think it's going to make the AMD kernel more like the original. But there are problems from it using applications right now.

Glad I could be of assistance, we finally made it :)
hello,
I noticed with the HD 5450 graphics without accélaration, after 2 hours walking copy / paste still working and I had only three applications that bugger.
As soon as I replaced the HD 5870 (native) bugs were almost immediate.
the problem does not come from the opengl /cl?

I've found this too, Safe Mode seems to last longer.
perhaps also the fact that there is no graphics acceleration, the processor is solicited and avoids the shelving of certain application.
it's still odd that Safari is not concerned.
Someone has tested a Lion DP2 to see if the phenomenon was persistent about this version?

Huh, seems like most kernel users are having video issues.
I can't boot with GraphicsEnabler=Yes, otherwise the monitor loses the signal when entering the gui (GeForce 9800GT).
Same result with the G92 enabler in iAtkos, rom injection, efi string, changing NVCAP, nvenabler 64, DSDT and nvidia official drivers from nvidia web site.

Dimitri came up with an explanation of why xpchelper is crashing the whole system and it's basically because it's linked with power management. This relates to the motherboard and the graphics card and how they're loaded, and that's what's causing the hang, when they're not defined properly.

You have at least two tutorials!
http://osx86.co/f100/lion-with-amd-t7106/page51.html
and just when i thought amd + lion was dead i found this thread and after some reading decided to give it a shot, even though my setup is sooo old it shouldnt work anyway. well after lurking this thread and some google i have joined you amd lion peoples...yay! i did basically method 2(iATKOS L2) on lunfai guide except i installed to a different hard drive and not a partition. i had to use a custom kext(AppleNForceATA.imk64bit.kext) to get it to fully load and see the boot source. once in lion i enabled my other kexts for sound & wifi, the graphics were installed with latest nvidia mac drivers install.
thanks to lunfai for the guide that helped with the flags

Make sure you repair your system files and verify permissions, as custom kexts can make or break the installation if you don't.
just reinstalled Lion again so heres my quick tut on what i did:
1. boot into Snow Leopard and with disk utilities select hard drive to install Lion select to partition as master boot record
2. run iATKOS L2 installer package and point at new Lion partition, install.
3. reboot into windows or Snow Leopard and replace mach_kernel (i used mach_kernel_v4_bronzovka (http://www.osx86.net/view/2584-again_update__mach_kernel_10.7.3_for_amd!!!!!!!!.h tml)) and add to \Extra an \Extensions folder and drop the AppleNForceATA.imk64bit.kext (http://www.sendspace.com/file/xch0ty) into it...also i replaced the Finder.app with the DP2 Finder.app (http://www.mediafire.com/?2560lfp1i63hmec)
4. installed chameleon with lizard to Lion but updated it with champlist after reboot and booted with these flags
-v -f -legacy arch=i386 npci=0x3000
5. at this point Lion fully loads. from here i fixed my wifi by editing IO80211Family.kext\Contents\PlugIns\AirPortAtheros 21.kext\Contents\Info.plist and changing <key>IONameMatch</key> to only <string>pci168c,13</string>
6. i have AC97 audio(i know how fukin old) fixed with AC97Audio.pkg (http://www.mediafire.com/?jo5ocf5h3d1kl0o)
7. fixed graphics with nvidia mac installer package (http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-270.00.00f01-driver.html)
8. enjoy a kinda working Lion :) havent got a kernel panic yet but the os locks up a lot(i see pinwheels)

Hey guys,
So I've been playing around with Lion a bit, trying to get everything working. There are 2 crucial things I need running: Wifi and Sound. In SL, I get wifi from an app called "Ralink Wireless Utility". It installed correctly in Lion, but when I hit "Connect", it doesn't do anything. Also, I'm currently using AppleAzaliaAudio.kext for audio on SL. There were a few apps i.e. TextEdit, Software Update, that don't start-up. :-/ For now I'll be using SL as a daily OS but I'd really like to start using Lion!
Thanks,

Well, it just kinda bounces in the Dock and doesn't load, same w/ Software Update... :-/
btw here are the boot flags I use:
-legacy -v arch=i386 npci=0x3000 GraphicsEnabler=Yes UHCIReset=Yes ForceHPET=YesSometimes it doesn't boot with the UHCI and HPET flags, but they were both in my original com.apple.Boot.plist, so I just include them. I'm currently booting Lion from a USB stick, how would I get it booting on its own via the HD? I certainly can't use the Chameleon on the SL partition because it gives me a kernel panic if I do. Here's what I tried to do:
$ diskutil list
$ sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0
> f 3
> write
> exit
$ logoutThat's supposed to make the Lion partition active but it still boots me to the SL partition anyway... :-/

hi guy
i have a problem with installing niresh lion v2
boot from dvd or pen drive dont work, still wait with intermittent cursor _ for hour
for this i'v tried with rboot cd in verbose mode and get error
Boot Args: boot-uuis=36ccd437-d875-3c97-abb7-b11ee7ea8bcd rd="uuis arch=i386
after this string reboot
i'm just tryed to type "kernel cache"=\arch=amd etc... and other option, but dont work
i believe to replace mach_kernel in the usb pen with any mach_kernel for amd posted in osx86 site, and try to boot, but... how to!??! now i have only win 7 64bit installed, and the pen drive result not accessible under windows.
Any ideas for this cataclysm!?!?!?

oIs there anybody who had luck with an AMD X6 CPU? I tried to install Lion in my PC:
AMD x6 1090t
Asus M4A87TD Evo
GeForce GTX 560
But it just reboot after the Message: Start Darwin x86
I did the following stepts:
1. Install iAtkos l2 osinstall.mpkg with defelaut settings (just without bootloader)

oIs there anybody who had luck with an AMD X6 CPU? I tried to install Lion in my PC:
AMD x6 1090t
Asus M4A87TD Evo
GeForce GTX 560
But it just reboot after the Message: Start Darwin x86
I did the following stepts:
1. Install iAtkos l2 osinstall.mpkg with defelaut settings (just without bootloader)
2. Install Chameleon RC5 Beta
3. Copy bronzovkas Kernel to root folder, 32bit Finder to s/l/cs and applenforceata Kext to Extensisions in Extra

RC5 is really old, try using Chameleon Wizard or 2.1 B1902.

I have the same processor as you, and mobo is Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H. Try disabling AMD C1E is the bios and then boot. and use the flags in this order -legacy -v arch=i386 npci=0x3000 I know the order shouldn't matter but for me some times it does. Hope it works :)

We did. (yes the Lion one from 10.6.8 legacy kernel thread (http://osx86.co/f36/legacy-kernel-10-6-8-with-custom-dyld-t7318/post55947.html)) - no sucess.
I also went on and picked the bits that have to be changed for sysenter trap patch from AnV's source code & applied them manually to dyld.
(So I had just sysenter patch applied, no of amd_insn_patchers other modifactions)
The result is the same, after fixing permissions & copiyng over dyld, there is a Kernel Panic caused by the process of mdworker32 appearing immediately.
(rhcp also tried my dyld with only sysenter patch, he has the same panic)
Most likely it is not that application itself, that causes the problem.
Fixing this will require some more code change in the Kernel I think...
This doesn't bother me that much currently, as a lot of 64-Bit code has been added to Lion (iTunes, etc) - but still some code is left, that has not been updated, so we will have to look into cracking that problem.

i've tryed but dont work. i've tryed with:
-v -x -f
"kernel cache"=\amd
arch=i386
platform=acpi or osx86
fsb=200000000
dsdt=yes
and... with original mach_kernel of niresh lion, pc reboot automatically after bootcd. with niresh on usb i'ts different because i've change mach_kernel with mach_kernel V4, and with this dont reboot, but i'm get error of acpi
unable to find driver for this platform
this error is for niresh lion and hazard snow leopard and retail snow leopard, i remember "monts ago" i've intalled iatkos V7 leopard without more problem, but only there. any other distro report this error, this fu...d error!!!!

most likely your booting 64bit AMD can't do it
so add flag at boot
arch=i386 -v

i have MSI 790FX-GD80 and AMD Phenom x2 II 550 and 2x ATI 5750 work good on
10.6.8 64bits.
Now i go to Lion on my CPU working hopefull.
And how install?
I think that first 10.6.8 install Lion 10.7.3 to Another partition for 2 harddisk
than can i that back to 10.6.8 legacy kernel amd lion on 10.7.3 2 harddisk than work boot.
I go make and you hear later more my.

Any chance there's a way to get lion onto my machine?
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
ASUS Crosshair V Formula (990 chip)
ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6950 2gb
Onboard Realtek HD Audio OR Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium if that can be used.
Intel Gbit LAN
16gb Ram
My goal is to just have a VM and allocate like 4gb ram and 2 processor cores and full video acceleration. I got Snow leopard to work a LONG time ago but I can't for the life of me remember how or what resources I used.
Anyone know if it will work/one comprehensive (or a little less comprehensive, I can think and work my around things ok given enough time and patience) tutorial? I have a retail 10.6.0 disk, and an image of 10.7.3 from my friends' thumbdrive (don't have access to the computer anymore so I can't really mod the iso and have to install from retail).
I just kinda reverted to noob status after being successful about.. 1 1/2 years ago? it worked on a different mobo with same gfx but that was the old 770 chip so dunno if 990 will work. also should I turn on VM cpu setting in BIOS? I disabled as i wasnt using it at the time and was overclocking.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and even more thanks in advance for replies! Ready to provide more details on system or whathaveyou upon request.

VT-x/AMD-V in BIOS should be enabled.
You won't get full hardware acceleration working within a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox etc.). You can give it video graphics acceleration but it will not do anything since it just doesn't enable QE/CI. You will be able to get a simple installation running, with any of the guides listed already, but you won't be able to run programs like Final Cut Pro / XCODE *compiling*, Flash (Latest relies on hardware acceleration) and Quick Time. Depends what you want to do with the Virtual Machine really.
But as of now there is nothing you can do to enable QE/CI within a VM, and you could never do that in Snow Leopard either, I don't know why you mentioned that. VirtualBox was working on some guest package, but it's been a long time and I don't think that'll ever really make it work completely.
The same guides applies to VM, you'll need the same kernel and installation method. You'll need a pre-existing Snow Leopard copy and then just attach another dynamic disk and install Lion onto there. (Follow Guides), then change the vdi so you'll load the Lion disk and it'll just work like normal.

Hey, thank you for the quick reply.
Did I mention QE/CI? I don't remember/ really know what that is ha.
Anyways, I mostly just like using OS X for everything except gaming... And it's gonna be a LONG time before I can get a real mac. So I figured I'd see if there was some headway made in the Lion frontier for AMD machines.
And I made an error, I have the original 10.6. Is there any specific guide that works better than others? I have viewed a lot and most mention some aspect that seems to not apply to me, just subtle nuances and none of them really seem to fit my current situation with this.. at least none I've found but I can't find many that involve retail OSX 10.6 guest to AMD Virtualbox Windows 7 Host. And searching hasn't turned up anything for me.

QE/CI is basically a fancy OS X term for hardware acceleration.
The best way is to use method 3 here:

Adapt it, you should know most of what you're doing if you have past experience.
